| Leather sofa from Homebase |
Leather is a popular choice for luxury in the modern living room. But does leather say class and style to you? I've picked out a few inspiring sofa designs and style ideas for contemporary living.
When it comes to choosing a leather sofa, the most popular colours are black and chocolate brown. Colours like cream and red are often available too, but cream can be a little impractical while red can seem a bit brash for most interior schemes. I've seen red work when the sofa is vintage and well-worn, in dark burgundy hues, but otherwise I'm jut not a fan of coloured leather in a living room. There are a range of brown leather sofa options, and tan is another shade that can look great in the right setting.
The corner sofa always seems to catch a guy's eye. But in my own experience, it's important to weigh up space with sofa size. If you've got a large room then a great leather corner sofa is a social and comfortable option. Stretch out and watch your favourite movies or hang out with friends, because this style of sofa makes that easy. Throw in plenty of cushions and you'll probably never want to leave.
Since kitting out our TV room, I've realised that every home should have a footstool. Being able to sit back in your sofa and put your feet up is what relaxing at home is all about. If you've chosen a leather sofa, then it makes sense to choose a foot rest or pouffe in a matching leather fabric.
Things to keep in mind when deciding whether to go for leather...
- If you have pets beware of their claws which can cause damage
- How will you clean it? Some leather sofas need to be professionally cleaned or you can buy specialist leather cleaning products to help keep yours looking new. Look for leathers which have been coated or treated to protect them.
- Avoid positioning your leather close to heat from open fires or radiators which can occasionally cause cracking
